Description

Enjoy a delicious twist on classic Philly cheesesteak with this Philly Cheesesteak Garlic Bread recipe, combining thinly sliced steak, sautéed bell peppers and onions, flavorful cheeses, and garlicky buttery French bread for a savory, cheesy meal perfect for sharing.

Ingredients

Scale

Vegetables & Meat

  • 1 Tbsp olive oil (divided)
  • 1 red bell pepper (thinly sliced)
  • 1 green bell pepper (thinly sliced)
  • 1 large yellow onion (thinly sliced)
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 16 oz shaved steak or thinly sliced ribeye steak

Seasonings

  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika

Bread & Cheese

  • 1 loaf French bread
  • 3 Tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp Italian seasonings
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup chopped Italian parsley

Instructions

  1. Prepare the vegetables: Heat ½ tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced red and green bell peppers and yellow onion. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are softened. Add 2 teaspoons minced garlic in the last minute, stirring to combine.
  2. Cook the steak: Push the vegetables to one side of the skillet and add the remaining ½ tablespoon olive oil. Add the shaved steak and season with kosher salt, black pepper, dried oregano, and smoked paprika. Cook for about 5-8 minutes, stirring occasionally until the steak is cooked through and well mixed with the vegetables.
  3. Prepare the garlic bread topping: In a small bowl, combine the melted unsalted butter, 1 teaspoon minced garlic, grated Parmesan cheese, and Italian seasonings. Slice the loaf of French bread lengthwise, then brush the garlic butter mixture evenly over both halves.
  4. Assemble the bread: Layer the cooked steak and vegetable mixture evenly on the bottom half of the bread. Place 8 slices of provolone cheese over the steak mixture, then sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the top.
  5. Bake the sandwich: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the assembled bread halves on a baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the bread is toasted.
  6. Garnish and serve: Remove the bread from the oven and sprinkle with chopped Italian parsley. Slice into 8 servings and serve warm for a hearty and flavorful meal.

Notes

  • Use thinly sliced ribeye for an authentic Philly cheesesteak texture and flavor.
  • If you prefer spicier flavors, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes when cooking the vegetables and steak.
  • Leftover garlic butter can be stored and used for other bread-based recipes.
  • For extra crispiness, you can toast the bread halves briefly before adding the toppings.
  • Feel free to customize with other cheeses like cheddar or American cheese as per your preference.
