Description

Crispy, fluffy homemade French toast sticks coated with cinnamon sugar, perfect for a fun breakfast or snack. These sticks are soft inside, golden brown outside, and delicious with maple syrup.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread

  • 8 thick slices Texas toast or French bread

Egg Mixture

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup half and half
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

For Cooking

  • 2 tablespoons butter

Optional Serving

  • maple syrup (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Bread: Cut each slice of bread into 4 sticks and set aside for dipping.
  2. Mix Egg Batter: In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, half and half, sugar, vanilla, and salt until well combined.
  3. Prepare Coating: In a separate bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon thoroughly and set aside for coating.
  4. Heat Skillet: Place a skillet over medium heat and add 1/2 tablespoon butter. Allow it to melt and coat the pan evenly.
  5. Cook French Toast Sticks: Dip each bread stick into the egg mixture, letting excess drip off. Place them in the hot skillet, fitting 6-8 sticks at a time with space between. Cook for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Coat in Cinnamon Sugar: Remove cooked sticks from skillet and immediately roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated. Arrange on a serving tray.
  7. Repeat Cooking: Continue cooking remaining sticks, adding butter to the skillet as needed to prevent sticking.
  8. Serve: Serve the French toast sticks warm with maple syrup if desired.

Notes

  • Use thick slices of bread like Texas toast or sturdy French bread for best texture.
  • Coat sticks immediately after cooking to ensure the cinnamon sugar sticks well.
  • Add butter gradually to keep the skillet nicely greased for even browning.
  • Serve with maple syrup, fresh fruits, or your favorite dipping sauce for variety.
  • These sticks are perfect for kids and fun finger food.
