Ingredients
Scale
Cheese
- 16 oz. Cabot Monterey Jack cheese
Dough
- 2 1-pound balls of pizza dough
Garlic Butter
- 4 Tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 Tbsp chopped fresh parsley (plus more for garnishing)
- ½ tsp kosher salt
- ½ tsp dried oregano
- ½ tsp garlic powder
Serve With
- marinara sauce (for dipping)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F to prepare for baking the breadsticks.
- Prepare Baking Sheets: Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
- Cut Cheese: Cut one entire 8 oz. block of Monterey Jack lengthwise into 8 long pieces. From the second block, cut only half into 4 long pieces, totaling 12 long pieces. Grate the remaining half block of cheese and set both the pieces and shredded cheese aside.
- Roll Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll each 1-pound ball of pizza dough into a 10” x 18” rectangle.
- Assemble Cheese in Dough: Lay one rectangle of dough on a large cutting board, evenly line up the 12 pieces of cheese across its length, and sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the top.
- Top with Dough: Place the second dough rectangle on top, pressing firmly to seal the dough tightly around each piece of cheese.
- Cut Breadsticks: Use a pizza cutter or sharp knife to cut between each piece of cheese, creating 12 stuffed breadsticks. Pinch the dough edges tightly to fully seal each breadstick.
- Prepare for Baking: Arrange the stuffed breadsticks on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them slightly apart.
- Bake: Bake for 16-18 minutes, until the breadsticks are lightly golden brown.
- Make Garlic Butter: While baking, whisk together melted butter, chopped parsley, kosher salt, garlic powder, and dried oregano in a small bowl.
- Brush Breadsticks: Remove the baked breadsticks from the oven and brush the tops generously with the prepared garlic butter.
- Serve: Serve the breadsticks warm, accompanied by marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
- Using fresh pizza dough will yield the best texture and flavor.
- Seal the dough edges tightly to prevent cheese from leaking while baking.
- Feel free to substitute Monterey Jack with mozzarella or a cheese blend if preferred.
- For an extra kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the garlic butter.
- These breadsticks are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in the oven for a few minutes.
